Watch: Exploring one of Donegal’s hidden gems by kayak

first_imgKayaking has become a hugely-popular pastime in recent years. And Donegal offers an abundance of coastline to discover. Here, kayaking instructor Jack Pearson explores the beauty of Owey Island and gives yet another example of the many secret gems our stunning county has to offer. From cliffs to caves, hidden gems and sandy beaches nobody can say it is a dull scene in any direction you look.Leaving Cruit island at one of its small beaches we headed for the island that is Owey, this small but beautiful island only takes up around 300 acres of the wild Atlantic with its highest point a mere 102 meters above sea level. The island, which was inhabited previously, was functioning with a small primary school and post office which closed in 1971. The remains of homesteads and settlements still remain on the southern part of the island, hidden from the roaring Atlantic winds.Throughout the video you will see the neat and intricate layout of caves and clear water as we journey around the rough but stunning terrain which fills the camera lens with colour and stunning imagery. Jack says it should be emphasised that all kayaking trips taken on the sea or any body of water are to be taken extremely carefully and experienced kayakers should always be with anyone attempting anything like this, as to reduce the risk of people putting themselves in danger.Watch: Exploring one of Donegal’s hidden gems by kayak was last modified: August 17th, 2017 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalJack PearsonKayakingOwey Islandlast_img
