Disruptions at Dublin Cork Airports after heavy overnight winds

first_imgUpdated, 08:41PASSENGERS PLANNING to take flights from Dublin and Cork Airports have been advised to check with their airlines before travelling, after severe overnight winds caused a number of flights to be diverted or cancelled.Airport authorities said the heavy winds overnight – which coincided with a ‘status orange’ weather alert from Met Éireann – had made it impossible for some planes to land.Shannon Airport said it accommodated 14 unscheduled arrivals which had been bound for Dublin or Cork but redirected due to the inclement weather on the eastern and southern coasts. While the weather has since calmed, the disruptions mean that some aircraft are out of position. Some 19 departures from Dublin have so far been cancelled today as a result of the disruptions.Three departures from Cork airport have also been cancelled.Passengers have been advised to contact their airline for updates on any disruptions to flights.last_img
