WASHINGTON – The U.S. government’s international broadcasting agency says it will discipline employees responsible for a television report on philanthropist George Soros that violated its professional ethics and standards. The U.S. Agency for Global Media says that those who produced the report would be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into “apparent misconduct” and may face disciplinary measures, including firing depending on the results of the probe. The report on Soros aired in May on Spanish-language Radio Television Marti network, which broadcasts to Cuba.It described him as a “Jewish multi-millionaire” influencing nations through nongovernment groups. It referenced the conservative organization Judicial Watch as believing he was undermining democracies.Recently, Soros has been accused without evidence by right-wing commentators and politicians of funding migrants heading to the U.S. from Central America.___This story has been corrected to say the TV Marti report referenced Judicial Watch, not quoted the organization.
Rabat – Undoubtedly, 2018 has been a year full of unforgettable moments in football both in Morocco and around the world. It was a hard year for some and a fantastic year for others. Before 2018 ends, football fans should take a moment to reflect on the most unforgettable football moments of the year. Atlas Lions’ games in the World Cup Moroccan national team at the World CupPeople from all over the world witnessed the level of Morocco’s performance in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Atlas Lions played solidly in the World Cup and made two big European national teams, Spain and Portugal, fight to get out of the group stage. The two European neighbors both struggled to defeat their African rival. Many Moroccans believe if VAR was not used in favor of Portugal and Spain, Morocco would have made them pack their bags and leave the World Cup early.Casablanca’s Raja Athletic Club sloganRaja Athletic Club supportersFans of Raja De Casablanca (RCA) repeatedly chanted a slogan in September during a game expressing their discontent over living conditions, discrimination, and oppression in Morocco.A video documenting the chant was widely shared on social media and received many comments. The video crossed the Moroccan borders to into other Arab communities, collecting about 4 million views on Youtube. The rise of CHAN champion Ayoub El KaabiAyoub El Kaabi Moroccan football playerThe Moroccan football team of players without international contracts delivered a world-class performance during the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The competition promoted the rise of a talented young player, Ayoub El Kaabi, who scored in every match.El Kaabi displayed pure talent throughout the entire tournament scoring 8 goals in 5 matches, making him the top goal scorer in the entire history of CHAN.The Atlas Lions won the title of the 5th CHAN on February 4.Zinedine Zidane’s departure from Real MadridZinedine Zidane former Real Madrid coachSince coach Zinedine Zidane’s departure from Real Madrid, the club has experienced the worst period in its recent history. When Zidane left his post managing the “merengues,” it was the first blow to the club’s continuous success in a long time. After 2.5 seasons, 3 Champions Leagues, and several attempts to convince Zidane to continue with the club, Zidane made up his mind on May 31.Zidane pointed out that the club needed change to evolve. Mohamed Salah’s injury and recoveryMohamed Salah shoulder injury at the 2018 champions league finalWe all remember the UEFA Champions League final match when Mohamed Salah sustained a shoulder injury following a tackle from Sergio Ramos. It seemed he would have to abstain from participating in the World Cup.Many viewed the tackle as monstrous and heavily criticized Ramos. Salah recovered faster than expected and participated in the World Cup with the Egyptian national team.Luka Modric’s World Cup performanceMOSCOW, RUSSIA – JULY 11: Luka Modric of Croatia during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Semi Final match between England and Croatia at Luzhniki Stadium on July 11, 2018 in Moscow, Russia. (Photo by Jean Catuffe/Getty Images)Luka Modric, a Croatian midfielder, is certainly a symbol of a leader who brought joy to his country and impressed football fans with his outstanding performance in the 2018 World Cup.He led the Croatian national football team to defeat some of the strongest nations, like Argentina and England, all the way to the World Cup final before losing to France. The 33-year-old midfielder also ended a decade of Ronaldo’s and Messi’s reign over the Ballon d’Or. He was the first Croatian to ever win the renowned individual award in football. He has just been chosen Balkan athlete of the year, ahead of tennisman Novak Djokovic and tenniswoman Simona Halep. Real Madrid’s 12th UEFA Champions LeagueReal Madrid C.F. the Winner Of The Champions League in 2018On June 26, Real Madrid made history when it won its third consecutive Champions League trophy in a match against Liverpool.Winning the Champions League final match for the third time in a row had never been accomplished by a club. By claiming its 12th title, Real Madrid proved once again that it was the number one contender to win the UEFA Champions League trophy, despite its modest performance in La Liga.Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to JuventusCristiano Ronaldo’s announcement that he would leave Real Madrid right after winning the UEFA Champions League final match on June 26 left Real Madrid’s fans and players in a state of uncertainty. After nine seasons with “Los Blancos,” Ronaldo joined the “Old Lady,” Juventus, on July 10. The 33-year old forward signed for four seasons for €100 million with an estimated salary of €30 million.Suffering from both Zidane’s and Ronaldo’s departures, Real Madrid is now experiencing its worst performance in La Liga history with five defeats and two draws out of 16 matches.
“A visionary in so many ways, he understood that…in our interconnected world the human family cannot enjoy security without development, cannot enjoy development without security, and cannot enjoy either without respect for human rights,” Mr. Annan said in a statement delivered by former Under-Secretary-General Sir Brian Urquhart at a ceremony in Backåkra, Sweden. He also knew that to act on that understanding, “we need a strong United Nations, and true solidarity among Governments and peoples,” Mr. Annan said, stressing that those principles, which Mr. Hammarskjöld pursued tirelessly during his tenure as UN chief, from 1953 to 1961, and throughout his life, summed up the very mission the UN was undertaking in this, its 60th anniversary year.During the seismic global shifts that characterized Mr. Hammarskjöld’s years at the helm, more than 25 countries gained independence and became Member States of the UN. “”[In addition] no one…tried harder to grasp the promise and problems of Africa. No one searched more deeply for solutions,” Mr. Annan said.Mr. Hammarskjöld was constantly exploring new diplomatic techniques, from the creative use of his own office as Secretary-General, to the pioneering practice of preventive diplomacy. “Mr. Hammarskjöld embodied the very definition of a visionary, for he saw things in a way that was far ahead of his time,” he said.”That we are acting on that vision today is surely the best tribute we could pay to this exceptional human being, who saw himself as a servant as much as a leader, and who for that reason, was followed by many; who knew and loved his country deeply, and was inspired by its ideals to work for the good of the world,” Mr. Annan said.
Diana Eves, centre, promotes her product, Steeped Tea, at a home tasting session in Chestermere, Alta., Thursday, July 21, 2016. Multi-level marketing or direct selling is often associated with the heyday of Tupperware parties. It has since ballooned to include folks peddling jewellery, handbags, kitchen gadgets, makeup, leggings and more for companies often touting a profitable side hustle, along with empowerment to mostly female recruits. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jeff McIntosh How direct sales companies have grown since the days of Tupperware parties by Aleksandra Sagan, The Canadian Press Posted Jul 22, 2016 7:00 am MDT Last Updated Jul 22, 2016 at 7:40 am MDT AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email TORONTO – About three years ago, Diana Eves signed up to sell loose leaf tea and recruit salespeople for a company called Steeped Tea on her mother’s insistence. The Calgarian says she now rakes in about $1,300 monthly from commission on her sales and those of some of her recruits. Within the next two years, she plans to leave her retail job.“Being your own boss is a huge benefit,” she says, rattling off a list of other advantages of her gig including flexible work hours and the camaraderie among her team. This business model referred to as multi-level marketing or direct selling is often associated with the heyday of Tupperware parties. It has since ballooned to include folks peddling jewellery, handbags, kitchen gadgets, makeup, leggings and more for companies often touting a profitable side hustle, along with empowerment to mostly female recruits. In Canada, nearly 800,000 people attempt to make money this way, according to the Direct Sellers Association of Canada. In the U.S., 20.2 million worked as consultants last year, according to the Direct Selling Association, a jump of 11 per cent from the prior year. But some say consultants don’t stand to profit much and the arrangement can create pressure to supplement a loved one’s income.Multi-level marketing structures are prone to operate as illegal pyramid schemes, said William W. Keep, the dean of the College of New Jersey School of Business, who studies these types of business models. Some of these companies require consultants purchase a minimum amount of products monthly and can’t show sufficient public demand for their goods, he said. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission recently ordered one of them, Herbalife, to restructure its American operations, including ensuring that at least 80 per cent of its product sales come from retail customers. However, many of these companies maintain they are not pyramid schemes. They can operate legally in Canada, according to the Canadian Consumer Handbook, so long as they abide by the Competition Act, which includes not selling onerous amounts of inventory to consultants.Eves said she doesn’t stock up on Steeped Tea goods, and the company is not a pyramid scheme because it promotes a product and gives all recruits the same opportunity to succeed. She stressed she is not a Steeped Tea employee, so her views don’t necessarily reflect those of the company.Steeped Tea did not make anyone available for an interview or answer questions via email prior to publication. But just because the companies follow the letter of the law doesn’t mean making money is easy.At Scentsy, a fragrance company, consultants fall into nine tiers, according to a company document posted on their website that shows average annual earnings as of December 2014.Nearly 65 per cent of its consultants — more than 66,000 — sit on the second tier, where the average worker made US$463.34 in a year.Top-level directors, of which there are fewer than 200, earned an average of US$113,363.98. The highest earner made nearly US$1 million, while its least profitable director took home just more than US$6,000.Scentsy also did not make anyone available for an interview or answer questions via email. The probability of success, Keep said, is not encouraging based on the limited earnings information available from multi-level marketing companies.People looking for “significant financial gain” rather than social benefits shouldn’t sign up, said Ela Veresiu, assistant professor of marketing at York University’s Schulich School of Business in Toronto.“For the fun aspect of it, for the free products, to keep busy — sure,” said Veresiu.Eves says the amount of income one can earn boils down to one thing.“The bottom line is the same: it’s your motivation,” she said. “If there’s six people on your block that sell Steeped Tea, I guess you’re just going to have to try a little harder.”But “unintended negative consequences” of this sales model, said Veresiu, include straining social relationships through sales efforts.U.S. humour writer Rachael Pavlik captured this sentiment in a satirical rant published last November on Scary Mommy, an online parenting publication, about why she’s no longer shelling out dollars for products her friends sell.In an interview, Pavlik said at one point, she would receive a couple of invitations a week to attend sales parties. She bought several things before she stopped going.“It just feels very phoney to me and it’s like I’m just a prospect for you to make more money,” she said of recruiting friends to a sales force.“A good way to lose friends is to push people into something that they don’t want to do so that you can make money.”Eves said she avoids that tension by focusing her recruitment efforts on strangers and not targeting individuals in her social media posts about products.Still, she acknowledges friendships may fall apart if the seller feels judged and the friend feels obligated.“I think that you’ve got to watch that on both sides.”Follow @AleksSagan on Twitter.

However, it was only enough in the first half, holding Kiel to 14:14, and even leading for some time in the 2nd half by one goal. But then it all came back to its place, and THW showed their strength. Zeitz and Ilic scored 6, while Sprenger scored 4 for a home victory of 28:23.In the other game, Gummersbach held Fuchse Berlin to a draw (28:28) with a goal in the last second. Fuchse Berlin had two goals advantage with two minutes to go, but Adrian Pfahl scores for Gummersbach and it’s 70 seconds til the end. IT’S BEEN CALLED the Merkel mystery: How did a pastor’s daughter who once marched in the uniform of East Germany’s communist youth end up leading a conservative, male-dominated party from West Germany to become the country’s first female chancellor? With Angela Merkel favoured to win Sunday’s national elections, observers at home and abroad are once again puzzling over the reasons for her success. Is it her doctorate in natural sciences that gives her an edge when it comes to solving problems? Or does the experience of watching the state in which she grew up collapse mean she takes nothing for granted? One point most pundits can agree on is that almost all of Merkel’s opponents have underestimated her from the moment Chancellor Helmut Kohl picked her for his first Cabinet just a year after she entered politics.“She didn’t start at a local level. She went straight to the Cabinet table,” said Jacqueline Boysen, her biographer. Angela Merkel and her husband Joachim Sauer. Pic: AP Photo/Matthias SchradeHer husband, a noted chemist, rarely complains about her cooking, the website says. “But my cakes always have too little streusel for his liking,” Merkel is quoted as saying, referring to the butter, sugar and dough flakes traditionally sprinkled on German fruit cakes.Angela Merkel: I regard the Anglo Tapes with contempt>This 100-year-old Berlin dance hall holds ghosts of German history>Merkel defends secret surveillance for security purposes> Merkel is now widely regarded as Europe’s most powerful leader. Comparisons have been drawn with Catherine the Great, the German-born czarina who ruled Russia in the late 18th century and whose portrait graces the chancellor’s otherwise spartan office. Both women grew up in the Prussian heartland, northeast of Berlin, displaying a sharp mind from an early age. And both were prepared to be ruthless in their pursuit of political power. While Catherine reputedly had her husband Czar Peter III murdered, Merkel famously turned on Kohl, her long-time mentor, after he became embroiled in scandal. Catherine the Great. Image: AP photo/PA ImagesHer election as chancellor in 2005 was the culmination of 16 years of patient toil. It reflects her philosophy, summed up in one of her favorite phrases: “step by step.”This has been her response to almost all challenges, including the European debt crisis from which Germany was largely spared — one of the reasons Merkel’s approval ratings remain around 70 per cent after eight years in powerSome observers have accused Merkel of having no grand vision. With the exception of her abrupt 2011 decision to phase out nuclear power within a decade, Merkel has been wary of pursuing major projects.“I think that Mrs Merkel doesn’t think that political visions are the task of a chancellor,” said Ralph Bollmann, a correspondent for the conservative Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper. She’s accused of having no convictions and being super-pragmatic. I would say that it’s precisely that pragmatism that’s her biggest conviction. To make that point, Merkel whipped out her party’s traditional slogan — “No experiments” — at an election rally last week in the western city of Dusseldorf. The chancellor is hoping voters will see things the same way come tomorrow. Still, mindful of an unexpectedly narrow victory in 2005 and stung by her party’s loss of an important German state earlier this year, Merkel has downplayed recent polls that put her coalition in the lead and warned Germans that they could wake up with the ex-communist Left Party in government if they don’t vote for her.Can she switch off from the job?Merkel has also learned to employ her wry, self-deprecating sense of humor to full effect. In a recent discussion with female voters, Merkel was asked whether she can ever switch off from her job as German leader. She replied:Of course. When I’m stirring a saucepan I don’t say to myself, ‘Now the chancellor is stirring a saucepan.’Another trademark feature is the prayer-like way she folds her hands while posing for photographs. So recognisable is the gesture — known as the “Merkel diamond” — that her party has used it on their biggest election poster near Berlin’s main train station. Alongside is the slogan: “Germany’s future — in good hands.” The ‘Merkel Diamond’ trademark gesture has become so well known that the hands of the new wax figure of German Chancellor Angela Merkel at Madame Tussauds in Berlin, Germany, shows it. Pic: Markus Schreiber/AP/PA Images. The idea that Merkel is good at what she does is reflected in another phrase used to describe the way voters feel about her: “Mommy will sort it out.”The motherly reference to Merkel, who has no children of her own, was once used by her enemies to poke fun at her dowdy demeanour. With two terms behind her, “Mutti” — “Mommy” — has become a term of endearment and familiarity.“Germans feel they don’t have a whole lot to lose if things just stay the same,” says Juliane Mendelsohn, a columnist who lectures at Berlin’s Free University. That hasn’t been the response that has greeted Merkel on her trips to Greece, Cyprus and Italy, where her demands for national belt-tightening have provoked fierce popular anger and accusations of Nazi-style imperialism.Talk of austerity has been largely absent in her campaign for re-election. Instead, Merkel has promised to spend billions expanding state childcare, increasing pensions and improving Germany’s autobahn network. But on her election website, Merkel appears keen to show that she is prepared to impose austerity even at home. Everyone thought this was because she was young, she was a woman, she was from the east and she wasn’t involved with the regime there. But things weren’t that simple because she proved that it was a place she was suited for. She found that she was talented and enjoyed politics.

A hazardous material spill shut down the Washougal Transfer Station on Wednesday afternoon and closed access to the nearby Columbia River Dike Trail. The spill was reported at 4:17 p.m. at a waste disposal site, 4020 S. Grant St., at the Port of Camas-Washougal. A worker was moving trash using a front-end loader, when something spilled and formed a vapor cloud, Camas-Washougal Fire Department Battalion Chief Larry Larimer said. The vapor mildly burned the worker’s eyes and throat, and he immediately called 911. Firefighters evacuated the solid waste disposal center and called in the Vancouver hazardous materials team and the Washington State Department of Ecology to investigate the spill, Larimer said. An officer with the Washougal Police Department and an animal control worker blocked access to the dike road to prevent people from coming into contact with any vapors. “We always plan for the worst, so that we can protect people the best,” Larimer said.Investigators determined that the material was muriatic acid, a diluted form of hydrochloric acid that is often used to clean pavement and balance pH in pools. Wearing hazmat suits, specialists shoveled any material affected by the acid into barrels for proper disposal. Larimer said agencies involved assumed someone dropped off the material earlier on Wednesday — one of two days in the week when the station is open to the public for garbage drop-off. “Whoever threw that away there caused an unnecessary response,” Larimer said. “It was a very irresponsible act.” Chemicals, including acid and paints, he said, should never be thrown out with the rest of the trash because they can harm people and the environment.
Geek Pick: Fi Smart Dog Collar Sniffs Out Your PetMan Saves Dog Left Tied to Electrical Cord on Side of Interstate Overpass Stay on target Dogs are pernicious beasts. Researchers have finally found evidence of the New Guinea wild dog — a species long thought extinct on the island.Throughout 2016 scientists used camera traps to capture more than a dozen dogs in various life stages on film. This particularly interesting because DNA sequencing reveals these dogs to be some of the most primitive on earth. That could help us learn a lot more about the genetic effects of domestication on modern domestic dogs.“[It] is the rarest and most ancient canid currently living,” reads the New Guinea Highland Dog Foundation (mouthful) website. “It is our best example of a proto-canid and is truly a living fossil. It is the apex predator of New Guinea and the most important canid in existence. The HWD is the missing link species between the first early canids and the modern domestic dog.”This is also the culmination of years of recent searches. Since the early 2000s, academics and conservations have been trying to track down rumored sightings and capture evidence that these rare species still lived. But two teams of researchers came together last year to hone in on these dogs’ likely ranges and deployed camera traps in the trees and brush of the forests. Fortunately, they didn’t have to wait long.In just two days’ time, there were 140 recordings of the dogs as well as collected droppings. Several of the team also had direct sightings, but while they are sentimentally valuable, first-hand accounts aren’t always as scientifically useful as images and videos which can be shown and compared with others. In any case, this is an exciting day for doggo science. And if you’re like me, you thought you knew everything there is to know about doggos. Well, we, in our feeble arrogance, thought wrong. There is more to know. I think we should pet the doggos and especially the puppers until they reveal all their secrets.Wait… too far?

More information: J. Zheng et al. Universal dependence of hydrogen oxidation and evolution reaction activity of platinum-group metals on pH and hydrogen binding energy, Science Advances (2016). DOI: 10.1126/sciadv.1501602AbstractUnderstanding how pH affects the activity of hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is key to developing active, stable, and affordable HOR/HER catalysts for hydroxide exchange membrane fuel cells and electrolyzers. A common linear correlation between hydrogen binding energy (HBE) and pH is observed for four supported platinum-group metal catalysts (Pt/C, Ir/C, Pd/C, and Rh/C) over a broad pH range (0 to 13), suggesting that the pH dependence of HBE is metal-independent. A universal correlation between exchange current density and HBE is also observed on the four metals, indicating that they may share the same elementary steps and rate-determining steps and that the HBE is the dominant descriptor for HOR/HER activities. The onset potential of CO stripping on the four metals decreases with pH, indicating a stronger OH adsorption, which provides evidence against the promoting effect of adsorbed OH on HOR/HER. © 2016 Phys.org In order to make a better catalyst for these fuel cells, Jie Zheng, Wenchao Sheng, Zhongbin Zhuang, Bingjun Xu, and Yushan Yan from the University of Delaware and Columbia University studied the factors that affect the hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in a hydroxide exchange fuel cell. Their previous studies showed that the dominant controlling factor in the HOR/HER reactions is hydrogen adsorption on the platinum electrode, i.e., hydrogen binding energy. In this study they determined that the hydrogen binding energy was directly related to electrolyte pH, not metal identity or the metal’s oxophilicity. Their work appears in Science Advances.Previous studies have shown that there is some correlation between the hydrogen oxidation reaction, hydrogen binding energy, and electrolyte pH. These factors seemed to be independent of the metal’s properties. In this study Zheng, et al. sought to better understand the effect of pH on hydrogen binding energy and how hydrogen binding energy affects the HOR/HER kinetics. They tested this by investigating current densities over a large pH range on carbon-supported platinum-metal nanoparticles (e.g., Pt, Ir, Pd, and Rh).Using cyclic voltammetry, Zheng, et al. determined desorption peak potentials for deposited hydrogen on each of the supported metal nanoparticles at various pH values. They observed a similar linear correlation for all of the metals in which higher pH lead to a positive shift. The results of this study indicate that there is a generalizable trend between hydrogen binding energy and electrolyte pH that is independent of the metal used.If pH affects hydrogen binding energy, then does it also affect the hydrogen oxidation and evolution reactions? In order to relate pH to HOR/HER activities, they used a rotating disk electrode and calculated exchange current density. They found that as pH increased, current density decreased, demonstrating that, indeed, higher hydrogen binding energy leads to lower HOR/HER activity.Armed with this data, Zheng, et al. then used mathematical manipulations to generalize the trends between exchange current density and hydrogen binding energy. From these they could calculate the activation energy of the hydrogen oxidation and evolution reactions in 0.1M KOH for all of the metal nanoparticles. Their results verify that the reaction’s high activation energy is due to hydrogen binding energy, and therefore, it is the dominant factor in HOR/HER kinetics in alkaline electrolytes. Finally, their last study looked at whether hydroxide ions played a role in the hydrogen oxidation reaction. Since hydrogen binding to the metal electrode is the key factor in HOR kinetics, Zheng, et al. wanted to determine whether adsorbed hydroxide ions also affected the kinetics. By looking at potentials where carbon monoxide is stripped from the electrode, they were able to deduce that hydroxide likely does not play a key role in HOR/HER activities. This research provides important insight into why the reaction kinetics is significantly slower in hydroxide exchange fuel cells. The pH apparently affects hydrogen binding energy, which directly affects HOR/HER kinetics. Of particular significance is that this trend holds regardless of the platinum-group metal used. Further research will look into ways to tailor hydrogen adsorption. Citation: Hydrogen oxidation and evolution reactions in fuel cells slow down because of hydrogen binding (2016, March 31) retrieved 18 August 2019 from https://phys.org/news/2016-03-hydrogen-oxidation-evolution-reactions-fuel.html Journal information: Science Advances (Phys.org)—As scientists look for alternative energy sources, fuel cells that operate in a basic environment have garnered much attention. Typically fuel cells require an expensive catalyst, such as platinum. Hydroxide exchange fuel cells involve the movement of hydroxide ions (OH-) across a polymer membrane. The alkaline environment is conducive to the oxidation and reduction reactions without the need for expensive metals. However, these reactions are quite slow requiring a better catalyst.

Earlier this year, Cloudflare launched its 22.214.171.124 DNS service as a resolver to make DNS queries faster and more secure that anyone could use free of charge. The day before yesterday, they announced the launch of 126.96.36.199 mobile app for iOS and Android. DNS services are used by internet service providers to interpret a domain name like “Google.com” into an IP address that routers and switches can understand. However, DNS servers provided by ISPs are often slow and unreliable. Cloudflare claims to combat this issue with its 188.8.131.52 service. On a public internet connection, people can see what sites a user visits. This data can also be misused by an internet service provider. The 184.108.40.206 tool makes it easy to get a faster, more private, internet experience. Cloudflare’s 220.127.116.11 app will redirect all user apps to send DNS requests through a local resolver on their phone to its faster 18.104.22.168 server. The server will then encrypt the data to avoid any third person from spying on user data. Features of Cloudfare 22.214.171.124 mobile app The app is open source. The app uses VPN support to push mobile traffic towards the 126.96.36.199 DNS servers and improve speed. It prevents a user’s carrier from tracking their browsing history and misusing the same. Cloudflare has promised not to track 188.8.131.52 mobile app users or sell ads. The company has retained KPMG to perform an annual audit and publish a public report. It also says most of the limited data collected is only stored for 24 hours. Cloudflare claims that 184.108.40.206 is the fastest public server, about “28 percent faster” than other public DNS resolvers. As compared to the desktop version, the mobile app is really easy to use and navigate. Head over to the Cloudflare Blog to know more about this announcement. You can download the app on iOS or Android to test the app for yourself. Air Canada exec reportedly on board as Air France CEO would face labour headwinds By: The Canadian Press Tags: Air Canada, Air France, Union Share Thursday, August 16, 2018 MONTREAL – Two French airline unions blasted Air France-KLM this week after reports the Franco-Dutch carrier will name an Air Canada executive as its new CEO.Several French news outlets have reported Air Canada chief operating officer Ben Smith is poised to be placed in the pilot’s seat at a board meeting Thursday.Smith, who has acted as chief negotiator during labour talks for Air Canada’s low-cost Rouge unit, would replace former Air France-KLM CEO Jean-Marc Janaillac, who quit more than three months ago when staff turned down his offer of a pay deal aimed at halting a wave of strikes.Philippe Evain, head of Air France’s main pilot union, accused the board in a tweet Tuesday of poor decision-making and handing over the keys to the company to a North American executive.A union representing Air France ground staff questioned Smith’s potential pay package, which the French newspaper Liberation reported will hit 3.3 million euros a year.More news: Save the dates! Goway’s Africa Roadshow is backThe criticism comes amidst growing labour turmoil on the tarmac in Europe, as pilots at Air France, Brussels Airlines and Ryanair have all staged work stoppages in recent months.A spokesperson for Air France-KLM declined to confirm reports of a new CEO and said the appointment process was ongoing. << Previous PostNext Post >>

(AP Photo/John Locher) Lawsuit leads to revelations about David Copperfield’s act LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Jurors got a rare behind-the-scenes look at a David Copperfield disappearing act Tuesday during testimony in a negligence lawsuit involving a British man who claims he was badly hurt when he fell while participating in a 2013 Las Vegas show. The magician’s friend and executive producer, Chris Kenner, revealed to jurors the mystery behind a signature Copperfield illusion that appeared to make about a dozen audience members vanish together onstage.Practiced stagehands with flashlights hurried randomly chosen participants through dark curtains, down unfamiliar passageways, around corners, outdoors, indoors and through an MGM Grand resort kitchen in time to re-enter the back of the theatre for their “reappearance” during the show finale, Kenner testified.“Is that route an obstacle course?” asked Benedict Morelli, attorney for Gavin Cox, a resident of Kent, England, who claims lasting brain and bodily injuries from his fall have cost him more than $400,000 in medical care. No, said Kenner, whose company, Backstage Employment and Referral Inc., is also a defendant in the case.Copperfield’s lawyers lost pretrial bids to close proceedings to the public to avoid giving away performance secrets. MGM Grand Hotel attorney Jerry Popovich said Tuesday the illusion is no longer used to close the show.Morelli asked Kenner whether stagehands and Copperfield visually assessed the physical fitness and footwear of audience members randomly picked to participate in the trick dubbed “the runaround.”Magicians, media members and lawyers were disqualified to protect the secrecy of the trick that Kenner estimated Copperfield performed tens of thousands of times over 20 years.“At no time are they told what they’re going to do before they start this illusion,” Morelli asked Kenner. “They’re told as they’re running the route, correct?”Yes, Kenner replied.Kenner declined to say it was dangerous to lead people along a dark and unknown route over changing floor surfaces of linoleum, cement, carpet, sidewalk and tile. The lawyer noted that before Cox fell, the group hustled through an alley coated with what Morelli called construction dust.Popovich told the jury of eight women and four men last week that 10 minutes before Cox fell, Copperfield safely walked through that same area as part of another illusion that did not involve audience participation. The MGM Grand lawyer said Copperfield would have alerted stagehands if he noticed any problems along the way.Cox and his wife, Minh-Hahn Cox, are seeking unspecified damages in the negligence lawsuit.Copperfield could take the stand Wednesday.
