Mumbai: The information technology services sector is estimated to clock a flat growth of upto 9 percent in the fiscal year 2019-20, a report said Monday. The growth will be at par with the 9.1 percent growth achieved by the sector in FY19, according to industry lobby Nasscom. The grouping has discontinued a 25-year-old practice of coming out with growth estimates citing the changes in the landscape which makes the job harder. Domestic rating agency Icra said the sector will clock a 7-9 percent growth in $in FY20 mainly on demand for digital solutions. Also Read – Thermal coal import may surpass 200 MT this fiscal”The earlier small-scale proof of concept digital projects has started evolving into enterprise level larger implementations coupled with improvement in discretionary spend supporting future growth,” its vice president Gaurav Jain said. The traditional mainstay of banking and financial services will experience some weakness on low interest rates, focus on cost optimisation and managing discretionary spending, it said, adding that insurance companies are supporting the growth. Also Read – Food grain output seen at 140.57 mt in current fiscal on monsoon boostFirming oil prices will lead to some discretionary spends by energy firms on digital spends and give the IT firms some good news, while retail is also showing improvement in the first nine months of FY19. From a profitability perspective, the rating agency said margins were flattish in the third quarter of FY19 on pricing pressure, increased regulatory costs, wage inflation and higher onshore hiring and sub-contracting cost necessitated by visa curbs. However, the overall margins are estimated to decline to 20.8 percent in FY20 for its 19 sample companies from 22.5 percent in FY18. Indian companies have started to ramp-up on-shore hiring in its largest market of US on visa issuance norms being tightened by restricting the entry-level programmers coupled with increasing compliance and evidence requirements adding to cost pressures, it said. There will be higher consolidation in the industry, especially among the small and mid-size players, owing to margin pressures in the next decade, it said. From a credit outlook perspective, the rating agency said it expects some stability on the ability of the sector to sustain free cash flows.

US says new sanctions on North Korea just the first step in US response to Sony hack attack HONOLULU, Hawaii – The United States says its new round of sanctions against North Korea is just the opening salvo in its response to an unprecedented cyberattack on Sony. Yet there may be little else the U.S. can do to further isolate a country that already has few friends in the world.Even the latest sanctions, handed down by President Barack Obama in an executive order, may not sting quite as badly as U.S. would have hoped. After all, North Korea is already under a strict sanctions regime imposed by the U.S. over the North’s nuclear program. The new round of sanctions unveiled Friday hit three organizations closely tied to the North’s defence apparatus, plus 10 individuals who work for those groups or for North Korea’s government directly. Any assets they have in the U.S. will be frozen, and they’ll be barred from using the U.S. financial system. But all three groups were already on the U.S. sanctions list, and officials couldn’t say whether any of the 10 individuals even have assets in the U.S. to freeze.Still, American officials portrayed the move as a swift and decisive response to North Korean behaviour they said had gone far over the line. Never before has the U.S. imposed sanctions on another nation in direct retaliation for a cyberattack on an American company.“The order is not targeted at the people of North Korea, but rather is aimed at the government of North Korea and its activities that threaten the United States and others,” Obama wrote in a letter to House and Senate leaders.North Korea has denied involvement in the cyberattack, which led to the disclosure of tens of thousands of confidential Sony emails and business files, then escalated to threats of terrorist attacks against movie theatres. Many cybersecurity experts have said it’s entirely possible that hackers or even Sony insiders could be the culprits, not North Korea, and questioned how the FBI can point the finger so conclusively.Senior U.S. officials, who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity, repeated their assertion that North Korea was responsible and said independent experts don’t have access to the same classified information as the FBI.With this round of sanctions, the U.S. also put North Korea on notice that payback need not be limited to those who perpetrated the attack. The 10 North Koreans singled out for sanctions didn’t necessarily have anything to do with the attack on Sony, senior U.S. officials said. Anyone who works for or helps North Korea’s government is now fair game, said the officials — especially North Korea’s defence sector and spying operations.Yet prominent lawmakers were already calling for an ever harsher stance. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who is set to chair the Senate Foreign Relations Committee this year, said it was time to concede the U.S. policy on North Korea isn’t working.Added House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, R-Calif.: “We need to go further to sanction those financial institutions in Asia and beyond that are supporting the brutal and dangerous North Korean regime.”Obama has said the U.S. is considering whether to put North Korea back on its list of state sponsors of terrorism. Beyond that, it’s unclear what additional penalties the U.S. has in its arsenal. There is no appetite for a military intervention. The U.S. has said that some elements of its response may not be seen publicly, however. The sanctions target the country’s primary intelligence agency, a state-owned arms dealer that exports missile and weapons technology, and the Korea Tangun Trading Corp., which supports defence research. The individuals sanctioned include North Koreans representing the country’s interests in Iran, Russia and Syria. There was no immediate response from North Korea. Sony declined to comment. While denying any role in a cyberattack, North Korea has expressed fury over the Sony comedy flick “The Interview,” which depicts a fictional assassination plot against North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Sony initially called off the film’s release after movie theatres decided not to show the film. After Obama criticized that decision, Sony decided to release the film in a limited number of theatres and online. The White House called the sanctions “the first aspect of our response” to the Sony attack, a declaration that raised fresh questions about who was behind a nearly 10-hour shutdown of North Korean websites last week. The shutdown prompted a blunt response from North Korea’s powerful National Defence Commission, which blamed the U.S. and hurled racial slurs at Obama, calling him a reckless “monkey in a tropical forest.”___Reach Josh Lederman on Twitter at http://twitter.com/joshledermanAP by Josh Lederman, The Associated Press Posted Jan 3, 2015 1:07 am MDT FILE – In thus Dec. 16, 2014 file photo, North Koreans gather at the Mansu Hill where the statues of the late leaders Kim Il Sung, and Kim Jong Il tower over them, in Pyongyang, North Korea. The U.S. is imposing sanctions on North Korea in retaliation for the cyberattack against Sony Pictures Entertainment. President Barack Obama signed an executive order on Friday authorizing the sanctions. Although the U.S. has already sanctioned North Korea over its nuclear program, these are the first sanctions punishing Pyongyang for alleged cyberattacks. Oct 30th 2016, 7:40 AM By Peter Bodkin YAHOO COULD BE forced to repay more than €1 million in state jobs grants as the company trims its local headcount after pledging to add 200 workers. In 2013, the company announced a major expansion of its Dublin operations centre, promising to add the staff to its operations within 12 months. Two years later, Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who met with the company on an IDA trade mission in the lead-up to the jobs announcement, was on hand when Yahoo took the wraps off a new docklands office with space for 450 people. However accounts just filed for Yahoo! EMEA, the company’s main arm in Ireland, show it employed an average of 277 people last year – down from 293 in 2014. On average, the company had 229 staff on its books in 2013 and 165 in 2012.The recent reduction in local staff came before Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer announced in February that another 1,500 jobs were expected to go at the firm out of a global workforce of more than 10,000.Mobile phone provider Verizon since struck a deal to acquire Yahoo’s operating business, which mainly includes its online and advertising networks, for $4.8 billion. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer Source: AP Photo/Julie Jacobson, FileWorkforce reductionThe accounts show that Yahoo’s Irish offshoot, which includes its headquarters at North Wall Quay and a data centre at Ballycoolin, spent more than €1.2 million on staff cuts during 2014 and 2015.A note attached to the documents said the company had “implemented a strategic workforce reduction programme to align resources with the company’s product strategy”.A further €2 million bill was recorded for redundancies to flow after the February global job-cut plans were revealed. The accounts said the firm received a €1.77 million government grant “for the provision of employment” but as of September this year it could be forced to hand back €1.1 million from the amount for “breach of employment thresholds”.A Yahoo spokeswoman told Fora hiring had taken place in Dublin every year since 2013 – and continued to take place, with a number of positions currently open.“Numbers were slightly down at end of 2015 due to our changing business profile,” she said, adding the IDA grant hadn’t been repaid as it was contingent on future employment levels.A spokeswoman for the IDA said the agency didn’t comment on individual client company matters, however all grants were “covered by strict legal agreements” and it would try to recover funds when any company failed to maintain grant-aided jobs. Yahoo’s new office unveiling in March 2015 Source: Sam Boal/RollingNews.ieHigher turnoverThe accounts also show Yahoo funneled nearly €385 million through the Irish subsidiary from its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Operations – a 20% increase on the Irish company’s turnover for 2014.It reported a pre-tax profit of €3.8 million after the vast bulk of the income was spent on its ‘cost of sales’, administrative expenses and loan interest. The company’s tax bill for the year was listed as €1.16 million. The documents said the implications of the sale to Verizon, which was still to be cleared by regulators, “are being assessed” but they were “not expected to have an immediate impact on the operating activities in the region”. OK, so maybe it wasn’t the best idea.On a recent Friday afternoon, Vancouver resident and usual transit rider Scarlett Zibritovsky was in her car, stuck in northbound Interstate 5 traffic in Portland.Zibritovsky’s gaze shifted to the HOV lane on her left, then to the super-sized teddy bear riding shotgun on her right. It was only moments later, now in the HOV lane, when the motorcycle cop swooped in.Smarter than the average bear.“He looked past the giant teddy bear’s head (at me),” she said. “I’m sure he got a chuckle out of it.”She was caught. It was Zibritovsky’s first traffic ticket — to the tune of $260— for illegally driving in an HOV lane. But the 20-year-old swears it was the first time she tried to use her fuzzy friend to commit traffic fraud.“One time I did take advantage of what you aren’t supposed to do, and I got in trouble,” Zibritovsky said. The officer did get a laugh, she said.He told her, “Hold on, this is too good not to get a picture” before snapping a photo of Zibritovsky and the scofflaw teddy she likes to call Zeff. The rest of the world got a kick out of it, too. After KATU-TV ran the story on Zibritovsky’s ticket on Friday, it went viral on the Web. As of Saturday afternoon, she was receiving messages to her Facebook account every 15 minutes from strangers from as far away as Italy, Australia and Sweden.“They just say, ‘Hey, that was so funny. Thanks for making my day,’” she said.Zibritovsky said she likes driving around with Zeff, which she got as a present four years ago, because he’s so cute. She plans to keep to bringing him along. But rest assured, area law enforcement, she said, “I will be sure not to use the HOV lane.”
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – About 10 cows crossed a pasture area in Northwest Miami-Dade and made their way onto the Florida Turnpike Extension, blocking traffic until troopers removed them, Friday afternoon. The animals somehow got loose and crossed into the roadway, near Interstate 75. 7Skyforce HD hovered above the animals as a Florida Highway Patrol trooper directed them away from the highway and back to the farm from which they came.Driver Steven Zabielinsky sent in a photo of the cows next to the guardrail along the Turnpike Extension. The snapshot shows how close they got to drivers commuting through rush hour traffic.Speaking on the phone with 7News, Zabielinsky said he was heading north on the highway when he spotted the animals.“I was coming down from Doral, the traffic was building up, and I figured it must be an accident, and what a day to have an accident,” said Zabielinsky. “Then, as I kept going north and went around the turn and started heading east, I happened to notice there’s some cows walking along on the highway’s side.”It was at that moment that, Zabielinsky said, one of the cows appeared to head in his direction but ended up staying with the rest. “One of them looked like it was thinking about crossing in front of me, but they stayed there. They basically kept walking, and there were some that were on the actual grass area, and they’re just strolling along.”Zabielinsky said the sight caused other motorists to slow down, but the animals did not cause any accidents. The cows were wrangled up and taken back home. None of them got hurt.Remember, if you see news happening and can do so safely, take a picture or shoot video and send it to: firstname.lastname@example.org.Copyright 2019 Sunbeam Television Corp. Magicians, or conjurors, are a very small subset of the street performing scene who use an impressive array of tools, from sleight of hand to contortionism, to make an impression on the crowds that they inevitably draw. These people are popular and interesting; historically, they would often be the only magician in any given town, unlike circus performers or theater troupes, who usually were part of a large network of performers.Kellar’s “Levitation of Princess Karnac.”The result was a mystique and charm surrounding magicians, making them even more appealing to the people of major cities throughout history. This is where the Bottle Conjuror comes into the story. With many impressive and mysterious rumors surrounding magicians, revolving mainly around sleight of hand and pseudo-magic, the people of London were interested when a show was announced at the New Theater in Haymarket on January 16, 1749.Haymarket Theatre, c. 1900The advertisement stated that the “conjuror” would perform such tricks as identifying people who were wearing a face-covering mask and use a wooden walking cane to mimic the sound of numerous types of instruments while singing with said instruments in perfect harmony. The true marvel that the Bottle Conjuror said he would achieve, however, was that he would stuff himself into a standard quart bottle in front of a crowd of people and then have the bottle passed around to prove that he was inside it.This set rumors flying throughout the streets of London. The public was abuzz with chatter, impatient for the impending show that guaranteed amazement. January 16th arrived, and the people of London flooded the theater, the excitement almost palpable. The Paris Review states “On the appointed night the theatre was crowded to suffocation.”Image of William Phillips as Harlequin in a representation of the Bottle Conjuror, English broadsheet dated 1748.The audience was on edge, impatient, and excited. However, they would be disappointed, as when the time came for the show to start, nothing happened. No performer appeared on stage, no music came to soothe the crowd, and when the angry tension broke, it broke radically. The crowd started to hiss and make catcalls, causing a general ruckus to show their dissatisfaction, and restraint was quickly exhausted as a representative of the theater told the amassed crowd they would get their money back if the performer didn’t make an appearance. The crowd responded with more catcalls and shouts which created a cacophony within the confined space. The Haymarket Theatre in 2008. Photo by K. B. Thompson CC BY-SA 3.0Suddenly, a man in the crowd threw a lit candle onto the stage, and a riot started. Many of the patrons pulled down curtains, gathered up benches, and took all the woodwork to the stage, burning it in a show of anger. Then, once the damage had been done, the rioters fled, leaving the theater to burn as the police arrived, with the crowd dispersed and no one to charge for the damage. For a while, the Bottle Conjuror remained a mystery as no one knew his true identity, but according to an article by Geri Walton, the people of London suspected the theater manager Samuel Foote of perpetrating a hoax.He denied these accusations vehemently, and eventually, it was proven he was telling the truth when the Bottle Conjuror was found. It turned out the culprit was the aristocratic 2nd Duke of Montagu, John Montagu.Read another story from us: The Magician’s Scroll that Includes a Spell to “Get Women to Dance Naked”During a gathering of noblemen, he had bet he could find a full audience of people in London who would show up at a theater if he claimed he could do something impossible, and after the events of the Bottle Conjuror hoax, he was proven correct. For some time afterwards, The Bottle Conjuror was a joking reference to human gullibility.

SunTrust Banks, Inc. reported a net income increase of 14 percent to $467 million available to common shareholders, according to the bank’s Q2 2015 earnings statement released Friday. The bank credits their continued execution of core strategies to their solid earnings growth and improved returns. The Q2 2015 net income for SunTrust was $0.89 per average common diluted share compared to $0.78 per share earned in the last quarter, and includes a $0.03 favorable impact by a per share from a discreet income tax benefit.According to the report, earnings per share increased $0.17 over the second quarter of 2014, which was negatively impacted by $0.09 per share. For the first half of 2015, earnings per share were $1.67.”Our performance this quarter demonstrates solid execution of our key strategies – deepening client relationships, optimizing the balance sheet, and improving efficiency,” said William H. Rogers, Jr., chairman and CEO of SunTrust. “This was evidenced by higher revenue, continued deposit growth, and improved returns. In addition, our asset quality performance continues to be strong. As we look forward, we are confident in our strategies and remain intensely focused on delivering further value to our clients and shareholders.”Total revenue was $2.1 billion for the current quarter, an increase of $85 million compared to the previous quarter. SunTrust noted that this increase is mostly due to higher net interest income and broad-based growth in fee income.SunTrust determined that mortgage production-related income for the current quarter was $76 million compared to $83 million for the prior quarter and $52 million for the second quarter of 2014. Mortgage production volume increased 27 percent compared to the prior quarter and applications declined 10 percent sequentially, entirely driven by lower refinance activity given the increase in interest rates in the second quarter.“The sequential quarter decrease was due to a decline in interest rate lock volume and gain-on-sale margins,” the report said. “The increase compared to the second quarter of 2014 was driven by higher mortgage production volume and a decline in the provision for repurchases, partially offset by a decline in gain-on-sale margins. Gain-on-sale margins in the current quarter were adversely impacted by higher mortgage interest rates and an increase in loan production from the correspondent channel.”The earnings report also found that mortgage servicing income was $30 million for the current quarter, compared to $43 million in the prior quarter.Comerica reported that their Q2 2015 earnings reached $135 million, or $0.73 cents per share in their earnings statement also released on Friday. Last quarter, the bank reported a net income of $134 million and $151 million for Q2 2014.”Our second quarter results reflect the advantages of our diverse geographic footprint and industry expertise,” said Ralph W. Babb, Jr., chairman and CEO for Comerica. “Average loans were up $2.1 billion, or 5 percent, compared to a year ago and were up $682 million, or 1 percent, relative to the first quarter, with increases in most markets and business lines. Relative to the first quarter, average deposits increased $408 million, or 1 percent, with noninterest-bearing deposits up $668 million.”Comerica’s revenue increased 2 percent compared to Q1 2015 and the bank returned $96 million to shareholders through equity buybacks and increased dividends.”Revenue was up 2 percent, with growth in both net interest income and fee income in the second quarter. Charge-offs, nonaccruals and criticized loans remained well below normal historical levels. The provision for credit losses increased, primarily as a result of an increase in reserves for energy exposure. Noninterest expenses decreased $23 million to $436 million, primarily due to a decrease in litigation-related expense. Our balance sheet is well positioned to benefit as rates rise. We remain focused on the long-term with a relationship banking strategy that continues to serve us well.” Comerica Q2 Net Income SunTrust 2015-07-17 Staff Writer SunTrust Reports Q2 2015 Net Income of $467 Million; Comerica Totals $135 Million July 17, 2015 483 Views in Daily Dose, Data, Featured, News Share

Express App More Related NewsAustralia fast-bowling great Jeff Thomson has said the expected absence of Ryan Harris from the tourists’ attack for the first Test against England in Cardiff next week won’t hamper the team’s Ashes chances He also played down suggestions that Australia would have the edge over England following a 5-0 Ashes win on home soil in 2013/14 adding that if anyone might have "scarring" it would be the Australians given they had not won a Test series in Britain since 2001 File picture of Josh Hazlewood Getty Harris was left out of Australia’s ongoing final warm-up match against Essex after suffering a recurrence of the knee trouble that has plagued his career but with Michael Clarke’s men boasting plenty of fast bowling cover Thomson said Thursday: "I wouldn’t have had him in any way" Speaking at a press conference in London organised by series sponsors Investec Thomson said his preferred pace attack out of Australia’s current squad consisted of Mitchell Starc fellow left-armer Mitchell Johnson — who took 37 wickets at 14 apiece during the last Ashes — and Josh Hazlewood "I know (people talk about) Johnson but I think Hazlewood might be a leading wicket-taker here I love Starc always have for years He’d be my first pick" Thomson made his name during Australia’s 4-1 Ashes series win in 1974/75 when he formed a celebrated fast-bowling partnership with Dennis Lillee In five matches that series — he missed the last through injury — Thomson took 33 wickets at under 18 apiece bowling at a ferocious pace that has rarely if ever been exceeded But just a few months later Australia faced greater resistance in England before winning a four-match series — shorter than normal because of the inaugural 1975 World Cup — 1-0 Asked if fast bowlers caused long-term psychological damage to opposition batsmen Thomson said: "I don’t think it is psychological We (Australia) haven’t won here for 14 years so we’ve got a bit of scar tissue if you want to call it that" "Playing here is hard work It was the damndest thing the team we flogged in Australia then we came here and it was really uphill trying to win a match" There has been plenty of talk in the build-up to the Ashes about the amount of "sledging" or verbal abuse of opposition players that is likely to place given the acrimonious exchanges between the two sides in 2013/14 – ‘Revved up’ – Australia have long been considered "past masters" at "sledging" starting from Thomson’s heyday in the 1970s but the 64-year-old was adamant it was a later generation of Aussies who took the practice to its height "I think it developed more in the 90s with Warnie (Shane Warne) (Ian) Healy and all those guys" said Thomson whose prime years as a Test bowler came during the captaincy reigns of Ian and Greg Chappell "We didn’t say much I never said anything to anybody unless somebody said something to me "And nobody’s going to say anything to myself bowling 100mph" said Thomson whose 51 Tests yielded exactly 200 wickets at an average of 28 apiece "You are not going to say to Viv Richards ‘you can’t bat’ you are not going to say to me ‘you can’t bowl fast’ If you do you are going to get a show you’re better off zipping it" Thomson subsequently told AFP "In the 1990s when I was doing television commentary it revved up we used to hear it through the mics (microphones) Hayden and Healy all those guys it did get a bit much It was getting stupid" By contrast the time Thomson was most taken aback by comments on the field came when Colin Cowdrey summoned at the age of 41 from the depths of an English winter to reinforce a battered and bruised top order first spoke to him during the 1974/75 Perth Test "He just said: ‘Mr Thomson Colin Cowdrey I’ve been dying to meet you’ I was just shocked" said Thomson "But I could see that he could play He was a fantastic player" AFP Toggle between scorecard and ball-by-ball commentary DAY 2 REPORT CARDIFF: – Chris Rogers fell for 95 failing to turn a half-century into a hundred for the seventh test innings in a row as Australia ended the second day of the first test on 264 for five 166 behind England on Thursday The tourists replying to England’s 430 all out also lost David Warner (17) Steve Smith (33) captain Michael Clarke (38) and Adam Voges (31) Smith and Clarke were coaxed into errors by the spin of Moeen Ali who hit an entertaining 77 as the home team kept the Australian fielders busy for 75 minutes in the morning adding 87 to their overnight total for the loss of the last three wickets File picture of Moeen Ali Reuters The 37-year-old Rogers has been superbly consistent in a run of 50-plus scores that began against India in Brisbane in December but he will kick himself as a century appeared there for the taking He had progressed largely untroubled towards a fourth Ashes hundred when he tried to cut a ball from paceman Mark Wood that was too close to him and nicked it behind to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler trudging forlornly off the field at Sophia Gardens A deserved 100 eluded him but he still joined a select band with a seventh successive knock of 50-plus matching West Indians Everton Weekes and Shivnarine Chanderpaul Zimbabwean Andy Flower and Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara PAINFUL BLOW Rogers and Warner had begun well sharing a 52-run opening stand before the latter was well caught at first slip by England captain Alastair Cook off James Anderson Moments later Cook much to team mate Joe Root’s mirth was rolling around in agony after being struck a painful blow in the groin area that forced him off for treatment Smith the world’s number one test batsman clubbed Moeen to the boundary three times in one over but the spinner had the last laugh by inducing a leading edge that Cook caught at short mid-on ending a stand of 77 with Rogers Clarke also looked set for a big score before dancing down the track to Moeen and offering a sharp return catch Australia would have been fairly happy reaching the close of play four wickets down but a late lapse in concentration from Voges who played a loose drive off Ben Stokes and was caught at short cover left England feeling they could establish a decent lead Earlier Mitchell Starc shook off a sore ankle to finish with five for 114 Fellow paceman Mitchell Johnson the scourge of England in their Ashes demolition in
